Subject: New Dress Time: 07:49 pm

Well, I finally got around to hemming and finishing my dress for Alan's wedding in a couple weeks, and I'm actually pretty pleased with how it turned out. My serger is being a bit funky at times, but I still got it done. I haven't used a zipper in what feels like forever, and messed up there, too (I ended up taking the top several inches out so I could make it smaller, but at least it fits now!). It's made of embroidered "linen look" fabric, with trim around the empire waistline and a rolled hem. I actually just used the halter shirt pattern I've come to like to much, and added 5 inches for decency. ( Here are pictures of it both on the dressform, and on me )

Subject: ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Time: 04:41 pm

I just got this from my Gram, via my Aunt Shelby. It was my great-grandmother's (so Flora Walker Offutt), and my Gram offered it to me a week or so ago. I haven't even plugged it in yet, but my Aunt said it worked fine when she used it (she gave it up because she can't sew, and saw no point in hanging on to it). I am so excited! According to this site my "new" machine was made between 1953 and 1954. So now I have a 1909 "Standard" machine (the company was bought by Singer at some point), a 1953 electric Singer, a 2004 Singer, and my new Husqvarna serger. Hooray! Now I should go see if I can figure this thing out. I need more space to store my machines.

( My new toy... ) In other news, I finished my black linen cincher (with tattoo cut-out), and just have one cuff and two button holes left on my men's shirt (16th-century), so hopefully I'll be able to post pictures of those soon. I can't really try on the corset until I'm healed, but I may try the old pillow trick...
